We have an opening for an experienced, innovative, strategic Associate Academic Designer (Editorial), Social Studies in our Columbus, OH office. Does this sound like you?
As part of our PreK-12 business, you’ll be part of a team that creates robust digital tools, curriculum and learning solutions in a variety of formats that are used by millions of educators and students every day.
Reporting to the Lead Academic Designer, the Associate Academic Designer (Editorial), Social Studies will plan and develop digital and print instructional materials for high school Social Studies program with an emphasis on materials developed for use with Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
Your contribution to the team includes:
- Plan and develop instructional materials for digital and print social studies products for Advanced Placement (AP) courses for grades 9-12, including but not limited to textbooks, interactive activities, worksheets, assessments, and teacher lesson plans.
- Prepare manuscript, ensuring accuracy, readability, and grade-appropriateness in accordance with project specifications.
- Coordinate and oversee the work of outside freelancers or suppliers.
- Edit, track, and review manuscript and digital products through development cycle.
- Correlate educational materials to College Board standards and frameworks and state social studies curriculum standards.
- Work in a Content Management System to assemble and produce educational content.
- Must be detail oriented and able to edit a variety of materials both online and in print in a timely manner.
- Communicate with fellow team members about project progress, and develop solutions to address issues.
- Work as a team player to meet all intermediate and final schedules.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in history or a social science discipline.
- A minimum of 36 months of editorial or educational publishing experience
- Excellent communication skills which include a thorough command of the English language, spelling, writing, and grammar.
- Must be organized, detail- and deadline-oriented and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced rapidly changing work environment.
- Master’s degree or higher in a social science discipline or secondary education
- Experience writing and editing instructional materials for use in AP classrooms.
- Classroom teaching experience, preferably high school social studies AP courses
- Experience working with digital curriculum development, digital authoring tools, and content management systems.
